2023R-18 A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERMILION OF ERIE AND LORAIN COUNTY, OHIO TO ACCEPT A GIFT OF PUBLIC ART.
WHEREAS, Public Art Vermilion, a program of Main Street Vermilion, was established and works to encourage, educate, and promote a culture of art throughout the community to create an ever-evolving atmosphere of interest, making art accessible to all.
WHEREAS, the program, which enlisted the involvement of key stakeholders in the community, including the city administration, Parks and Recreation Board of Directors, Parks and Recreation Department, historic interests and citizens representing many neighborhoods and diverse interests, in the process of selecting a piece of art.
WHEREAS, the City of Vermilion agrees to accept this gift of original art in a public space and provide insurance coverage as they do with all other gifts to the city.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERMILION, OHIO, LORAIN, AND ERIE COUNTIES, that Public Art Vermilion and Main Street Vermilion present to the city the gift an original sculpture entitled “Aboard,” created site specific for the Main Street Park development.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, while a gift to the city, the maintenance of the sculpture following installation shall be the responsibility of Public Art Vermilion and Main Street Vermilion, where 10 percent of the sculpture expense ($3,000) will be held in reserve to address future maintenance.
THAT, this City of Vermilion hereby finds and determines that all formal actions relative to the adoption of this Resolution were taken in an open meeting of this Board; and that all deliberations of this Board and of its committees, if any, which resulted in formal action, were taken in meetings open to the public, in full compliance with applicable legal requirements, including Section 121.22 of the Revised Code.
WHEREFORE, this resolution shall take effect and be in full force upon its passage by Council and approval by the mayor.
